Solutions Empower Simon & Schuster to Achieve Supply Chain Excellence

AL Systems, Inc., the leading supplier of software solutions for improving distribution, announces that long standing client, Simon & Schuster, Inc., has chosen AL Systems’ DynaPro Warehouse Control System (WCS) and DynaPick Voice module to improve the flow of inventory through two distribution centers (DCs). The WCS, the brain of the system, communicates with the AL Systems DynaTrack module to control conveyors within the DCs and directs the DynaPick Voice Module, LXE HX3 voice units, and Voxware voice software.  The voice picking system will guide over 180 workers per day through the break case picking operations, an often labor-intensive operation, to increase productivity and enhance throughput.

“Simon & Schuster and AL Systems have a very long, successful relationship,” said Dave Shafer, VP Logistics at Simon & Schuster, Inc.  “AL Systems has helped us meet the challenge of moving large quantities of product through our distribution centers and we felt their solution offering was the most integrated and seamless on the market.”

“To support increasing throughput in the competitive supplier landscape, suppliers are outfitting their distribution centers with solutions, like those from AL Systems and Voxware, that handle high order fulfillment rates with little error,” said Chris Castaldi, VP Business Development of AL Systems.  “Our Warehouse Control Systems are modular and allow clients to add functionality, like Pick to Light voice picking or conveyor control and maintain full visibility to the operation through a single report.”

Voice-based technologies provide greater accuracy, productivity, and flexibility within picking operations.  Paper picking lists are replaced with voice commands, which allows order pickers to have both hands free to pick items and efficiently guides them through the order picking process, virtually eliminating picking errors.
